The Cortes Community Forest Cooperative is Born

After 20 years of commitment and effort…

On May 19th 2011, Steve Thomson, the Minister of Forests for BC, invited the Cortes Community Forest Advisory Group, on behalf of the entire community, to apply for a Community Forest Agreement to manage the crown land (about 40% of the island) on Cortes Island.  We have only a short time to respond.

The opportunity, for those who want to take part, is to form a group to be in equal partnership with the Klahoose First Nation.  Both partners would create a new company together and take control over the future of these lands.  The Klahoose are ready to proceed.  The non-aboriginal community is in the process of forming a co-op to meet them in this venture and we want you to join.
