Cortes Forestry General Partnership to Sign Agreement

It has been years in the making to bring together the Cortes Community and the Klahoose First Nation in a groundbreaking agreement for managing the unallocated Crown forest lands on Cortes Island.

The six person board representing three Klahoose members and three Cortes Island representatives are inviting the public to witness the signing of the agreement which will legally establish the partnership and bring a new era of sustainable forestry management to the island.

The board members for Klahoose First Nation are Chief James Delorme, Kathy Francis and Kevin Peacey. Those for the Cortes Community Forest Cooperative are Kristen Scholfield Sweet, Mark Lombard and Bruce Ellingsen.

The signing ceremony will begin on July 5th, 2012 at 11:00am at the Klahoose Multipurpose building with comments from the board members.
